Baby Shower Thank You Postcards

The Baby Shower was a lot of fun: nice people, yummy food, fun games, good baby tips, and the cutest little clothes and toys for the baby. Instead of Thank You cards, I created some postcards for the mother-to-be to write down her gratitude to send to everyone.

  • blue cardstock for postcards.

  • yellow paper, black felt-tip pen, orange felt-tip pen , orange 3D pen for chick; black 3D ink pen for sentiment; red crayon for heart; rubber stamps, Versa-Mark ink for background words and images.

  • black felt-tip pen for postcard layout; rubber stamp, Versa-Mark ink for image.

I love  the use of the Versa-Mark on these cards. It gives them a watermark kind of look, making the card look not too plain. Also, they are light enough so that you can write your message on top.

Baby Shower Desserts

Here are pictures of the desserts I made for the baby shower. I only planned to bake cupcakes...but then I saw this cute Belgian chocolate hatching chick figurine on sale (Easter had just passed) so I was motivated to use it on top a cake.

Vanilla cupcakes disguised as cute little chicks.
Step 1: Bake vanilla cupcakes.
Step 2: Smooth on yellow buttercream icing on cupcake.
Step 3: Dip into yellow sugar sprinkles.
Step 4: With some yellow icing in a decorating bag, draw wings.
Step 5: Sprinkle wings with yellow sugar to cover.
Step 6: With orange icing in a decorating bag, draw beak and feet.
Step 7: Push in chocolate chips to make eyes.

Red velvet cake with buttercream icing and chocolate chick topper.
Step 1: Bake red velvet cake.
Step 2: Colour buttercream icing in three shades of blue and place in separate decorating bags. (Be careful when filling the bags to avoid air bubbles in the icing, or you'll end up with a poopy cake like mine.)
Step 3: Squeeze dots in a vertical column on side of cake in colour pattern.
Step 4: Use the back of a spoon to slightly flatten and drag to the right.
Step 5: Squeeze dots in a vertical column to the right of the previous flattened dots, slightly overlapping them.
Step 6: Flatten and drag with a spoon.
Step 7: Repeat the steps until you cover the entire side of cake.
Step 8: Continue process, in circles, to cover top of cake.
Step 9: Place cute hatching chick on top.

Baby Shower Party Favours

Coming up with baby shower favours took me longer than anticipated. My initial idea was scrapped because the stores I went to nolonger carried the material I wanted. So making cake pops was a last minute night before decision. This is the first time for me to make these little treats, so hopefully they tasted okay! The decorating part scared me. I wanted to keep within the little chicks theme, but wasn't quite sure if I was able to pull it off. To me, they turned out looking like a cross between a chick and a bald man with a hooked nose!!!

The pops were dipped in yellow candy melt. Then, orange candy melt was used to draw wings and feet and form the beaks. Afterward, a black food marker was used to dot eyes.

Finally, each cake pop was wrapped in cellophane and tied with a piece of curling ribbon with a tag attached.

The same night I baked cupcakes and a cake and decorated them the next morning before the shower. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the desserts, so I won't be able to share them until the mom-to-be sends me photos. In the meantime, I've got some thank you cards to make!

Baby Shower Invitations

This is so exciting! A close friend of mine will be giving birth to a baby boy in a couple of months. She's been super busy getting ready for the baby. To step away from the craziness, she and her hubby went on a babymoon. "Babymoon"? I didn't know there was such a thing!

Another nice little thing before the arrival of her precious one is a gathering of her favourite girlfriends and relatives later in the month. I am so happy that I was asked to create the baby shower invites. It was fun and a pleasure making invitation cards for my dear friend's party.

Simple, yet very cute! Keeping to the same animal theme, I already know what to do for dessert!

Well, the next thing to make is the party favours. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, but please do come back in a few days to find out what I end up making!

A Decorated Cake

I'm not a lover of baking. However, I do make cupcakes, and the odd times, cake,  just because they look cute and pretty when iced! I guess it is correct to say that I bake just to decorate them...kekeke.

Here is my most recent creation.

It turned out quite nice, considering it was actually my second time using fondant to cover and decorate a cake. And it was just a week ago that I learnt to make a briar rose out of gum paste and discovered colour dust.

Here's a closer look at one of the flowers.

What do you think of the cake? Did I over do it with the candy pearls?!
